National Museums of Kenya

National Museums of Kenya
Nairobi, Kenya

This drum is made using an iron blade and is covered with cowhide. The skin has been cut to make ropes which is then plaited and used to decorate the outer part of the drum. Drums hold a very special place in African history and culture because they play an important part in people's lives. The sound of this drum when played is to send message to the people in the town alerting them of danger or death of a person.
