Marriage of Zenobia and Odenathus

The Cathedral of Segovia

The Cathedral of Segovia
Segovia, Spain

This tapestry belongs to the series "Zenobia, Queen of Palmyra." Located on the right side wall of the Chapter House, it depicts the marriage of Odaenathus to his second wife, Queen Zenobia. The moment is transferred to the tapestry, in a central position, with the presentation of a wreath of white flowers to Zenobia and the gesture of the couple joining hands. In the upper right corner, four women carry cornucopias, and next to Odaenathus, two servants carry olive branches. The religious marriage takes place in a temple, reflected by a portico and the figure of the old man, dressed in blue, making an offering in the copper burner. The interplay of light, shadow, and color highlight Queen Zenobia.
