Native of Athens, Alecos Fassianos (1935-2022) lived and worked between the Greel capital and Paris, epicenters of the ancient and modern art worlds. Fassianos coupled the two influences in his work by bringing ancient myth in the modern context. His pieces are filled with heroic characters and intellectual allegories set amongst everyday life. Motion is present in every image, with hair waving in the breeze. The figures are shown in assertive poses as if celebrating a forthcoming or an already-won victory. With a touch of irony, they add a heroic edge to the mundane truth of daily situations.
